Close call for diver who tried to help
shark
A diver at an aquarium in Penglai, Shandong Province had
a narrow escape last week after being attacked by a group of sharks.
On
June 7, a team of divers was trying to relocate 38 sharks to allow for some
renovation work to be undertaken. When one of them, surnamed Li, saw that one of
the fish had got itself stuck between two reefs he went to its aid. However, in
its frightened state, the shark bit Li on the leg. As his blood dripped into the
water, the remaining sharks became excited and started moving toward the injured
diver.
Thankfully, Li's two colleagues blocked their path with nets, to
allow time for the injured man to escape. He was later treated in hospital and
his wound required seven stitches.
Power cable foils man's
suicide attempt
A Taiwanese man who tried to kill himself on
Monday by leaping from a seven-story building was amazingly saved by a power
cable.
Witnesses said they saw the man, surnamed Lin, make his
leap, but on his way down he hit the cable, which slowed his fall. He broke both
arms and legs on impact, but doctors said his life is not in danger. They said
Lin was very lucky not to have been electrocuted by the 10,000-volt power
line.
