As the online costume drama Story of Yanxi Palace wrapped up Monday, it has become another popular small screen work featuring concubines in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)．The drama also boosted the number of visitors to the Forbidden City after the Palace Museum appeared in the TV series. According to Beijing Youth Daily, the Yanxi Palace, or Yanxi gong, a lesser-known place in the Palace Museum, became a major attraction recently. Many of the visitors came to see the venue where concubine Ling, the heroine of the drama, lived. Apart from the Yanxi Palace, Chuxiu Palace, Zhongcui Palace and Changchun Palace, are also receiving more visitors due to the drama series.

A record proportion of London homeowners are selling up to buy cheaper property in the north and Midlands, using profits made in the capital to splurge on bigger homes. Research by agents Hamptons International found the proportion of Londoners leaving the capital for northern England or the Midlands had tripled since 2010. Aneisha Beveridge, research analyst at Hamptons, said: "With affordability stretched, more Londoners are moving out of the capital to find their new home." Many London leavers were looking for a bigger home or better local schools, Hamptons said. Beveridge added that hefty stamp duty charges were also pushing second-movers out of the capital. Hamptons said 30,280 Londoners sold their homes in the first half of 2018 to move out of the capital, a rise of 16% over the same period last year.

>Maruko's creator is dead

Momoko Sakura, the creator of the much-loved "Chibi Maruko-chan" manga and anime series about a little girl called Maruko, died of breast cancer on Aug 15, her company said Monday. She was 53. The funeral has been already held, with only family members and close friends in attendance, the firm said in a statement posted on its website together with an illustration of Maruko and her friends. Sakura, who debuted as a manga artist in 1984, started the "Chibi Maruko-chan" series in the August 1986 issue of the monthly manga magazine Ribbon. "I feel so sad about her demise, which came too early. But the bright smiles of Maru-chan and her friends will keep shining in the minds of readers ranging from kids to adults," wrote Soichi Aida, the editor-in-chief of Ribbon, in a statement posted on the magazine's website. "Big thanks for Ms Momoko Sakura," he wrote.

The Kremlin released several official photographs on Monday showing Russian President Vladimir Putin taking a hiking holiday in Siberia with his defense minister and the head of the Federal Security Service (FSB). The photographs show the 65-year-old Putin in a khaki outfit and hat, carrying binoculars and trekking poles, hiking in forested mountains and enjoying a boat ride on the Yenisei river in the Tuva region of southern Siberia. In one image shown of his Siberian trip, Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu are studying a coniferous sapling, ready for planting. In another, Putin and FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov stand in a forest clearing against a backdrop of forested mountains. Other pictures show Putin at the summit of a mountain, taking a boat ride, and talking to the head of the Sayano-Shushenski Nature Reserve.
