>Album inspired by paintings
The Palace Museum in Beijing has teamed up with Chinese internet giant Tencent to launch its first music album, which ties in with 11 of the most famous paintings in the museum's collection. Shan Jixiang, the curator of the museum, called the event "Ancient Paints Can Sing", "a wonderful hyperlink". In the collaboration, the museum presented 11 masterpieces, including, "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" by Zhang Zeduan and "An Ode to the Goddess of the Luo River" by Gu Kaizhi, as the inspiration. Tencent's musical arm invited public contributions of original music to accompany the paintings, while the museum's scholars provided the literary background of the paintings to participants. Veteran musicians helped select the best musical creations. The museum aims to further integrate new technologies into their collections to help make traditional culture more engaging, Shan said. The Palace Museum and Tencent formally established a partnership in July 2016 to promote the integration of traditional culture and digital creativity.

>Buy your way into Harvard
While it is no secret that offering financial gifts to certain Ivy League universities may compensate for a lack of natural gifts, the extent to which Harvard's admission process favors relatives of big donors is only now being laid bare. This is thanks to a lawsuit currently under way against Harvard that accuses the university of discriminating against Asian-Americans. A 2013 email exchange among Harvard administrators, for example, was presented at the trial last week. In one email (subject line: "My Hero"), the dean of the university's Kennedy School of Government commends the dean of admissions for doing a great job in extending offers to students with generous parents. "Once again you have done wonders. I am simply thrilled about the folks you were able to admit," the email says. "Name redacted has already committed to a building." The other people described as "big wins" in the email were connected to donors who had "committed major money for fellowships".

>Cancer risk greater for the tall
Tall people are at greater risk of getting cancer, with the danger rising by around 10% for every 10 cm above average height, a study has found. Researchers from the University of California, Riverside, calculated the average male height as 175cm and the average female height as 162cm. The research suggests that the hormone that stimulates growth, called IGF-1, has an effect on triggering cancer. As IGF-1 speeds up the rate that cells divide as they grow, it also increases the chance that the cells will turn into tumors. Researchers also said that being taller increases the risk of contracting cancer more for women - by 12% compared to 9% for men.

>The world's shortest flight
MarketWatch has found the world's shortest commercially operated flight. It takes less than two minutes between Westray and Papa Westray, two of the Orkney Islands that sit just north of Scotland in the UK. Loganair, a regional airline, charges £21 for a round trip. The distance between the two Orkney isles is 1.7 miles - about 6,110 times less than the world's longest flight, a flight that links Singapore with New York.
