>Grade reports go to parents
A Chinese university has begun sending students' report cards directly to their parents in an attempt to boost results. The move by Shenzhen University, the latest of a growing number of adult academic institutions to send reports to parents, comes after the government demanded students try harder. "We are hoping we can work together to help the students to learn and develop," read the university letter addressed to parents, which contained explanatory notes on the grades and contact details for professors. The college's decision to send transcripts straight to parents has sparked heated debate online. Some netizens argue grades are private and schools have no right to do so, while some others believe that parents, as the "investors" for the tuition fee, have the right to know about students' performance.

>Democrats take the House
US Democrats have taken control of the House of Representatives after mid-term elections on Tuesday, dealing a serious blow to President Donald Trump though he and his fellow Republicans expanded their majority in the US Senate. Taking control of the lower chamber of Congress for the first time in eight years will enable Democrats to thwart the president's agenda. The Democrats could now launch investigations into Trump's administration and business affairs, from tax returns to potential conflicts of interest. They also could more effectively block his legislative plans. Tuesday's vote was seen as a referendum on a polarizing president, even though he is not up for re-election until 2020.

>Spain's women-only hotel
The first hotel in Spain aimed entirely at women is to open on the popular holiday island of Mallorca in spring 2019. Called Hotel Som Dona Women Only, it will be in Porto Cristo on Mallorca's west coast and be open to women over 18 years old. Som Hotels president Joan Enric Capella said: "It is not about us in any way for women's rights or feminism, but to satisfy an increasing demand." Som Dona Hotel will offer 39 stylish rooms with a pink-and-white decor. It will also have a pool, free Wi-Fi, healthy cuisine, a spa, live music, and a rooftop bar. Som Hotels also plans to incorporate a mostly female staff. Capella highlighted an important element of a women's only hotel – a sense of safety for women travelers. "We men sometimes do not realize that, but when a woman enters a room, many men look at her, and a lot of the women feel that as an attack," he said. With female-only tour groups and more solo women travelers, it's no surprise hotels are looking to provide more safe spaces like women's only floors.

>Core station module debuts
A full-size model of the core module of China's space station, Tianhe, made its debut on Tuesday at the 12th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. The main purpose of the core module is the unified control and management of the station. It will have autonomous flight capability, support long-term stay in outer space and help astronauts conduct experiments concerning aerospace medicine and space science. The space station will consist of a core module and two experimental modules, each weighing about 20 tons. It will accommodate three to six astronauts. The designed lifespan of the space station is no less than 10 years, which can be extended with maintenance and repair work. The in-orbit construction of the space station is expected to be completed around 2022. It will be the country's space lab in long-term, stable, in-orbit operation.
