>Ofo refund policy under fire
Ofo
The bike-sharing service app Ofo is alleged to give higher priority to foreigners in terms of releasing deposits while neglecting mounting requests from its Chinese users struggling to get their deposits back. The Ofo app promises to refund the deposit of 199 yuan within 15 working days if users quit the service; however, complaints about never receiving deposits have been circulating and rising over past months. On Thursday, a Chinese netizen posted on the microblogging platform Sina Weibo, saying that instead of waiting forever on the phone to get through to Ofo customer service, he decided to try the "foreigner suing strategy." He wrote a fuming email to Ofo under the identity of a California native who's lived in China for about two years and doesn't speak fluent Chinese, requesting an immediate refund and threatened to sue the company. He posted again on Friday, saying a speedy refund was received in the morning, and showed a screenshot of an apology letter sent to him from the Ofo Support Team. The post sparked an outcry among Chinese netizens who are both disappointed and outraged at what seemed to be the company's two-faced treatment to its domestic and foreign customers. The hashtag, "Pretend to be foreigners and Ofo returns deposits in seconds", has received about 260 million views on Sina Weibo.

>Germany faces Santa drought
Christmas in Germany could be less delightful as many regions are suffering a severe shortage of Santas, according to recruitment agencies. The Berlin Santa Claus Office, which typically receives about 2,500 bookings per year, now has fewer than 200 Santas on its books, down from 500, one of the agency's employees, Petra Henkert, told German local media Der Tagesspiegel. "We are suffering a Santa drought," Henkert said. A student services organization in Berlin has already stopped its recruitment of Santas due to lack of candidates, it said in a statement released on the internet. Santas in Germany are often hired by families to recite festive poems, stories and songs. The role has traditionally been considered a nice source of income for students. An elite Santa could usually earn 100 euros per visit and up to 500 euros per day. The shortage, "particularly severe in eastern German states such as Saxony and Brandenburg, has been caused by long hours of study, the busy lives of modern students and a decline in the Christian faith," according to Britain's The Times.

>Chanel bans exotic skins
Chanel has become the first luxury fashion house in the world to stop using exotic animal skins, like snake, crocodile, lizard and stingray. The company's head of fashion, Bruno Pavlovksy, said it had become harder to source such pelts ethically. He also included fur in the list, of which Chanel uses little. Python skin bags have reportedly been taken down from the Chanel site, but Pavlovsky said it would take a while for existing products to leave their shops. The company would now focus developing leather and other material from "agri-food" industries, he said.
