>Acupuncture cuts period pain
Acupuncture can significantly reduce the severity and duration of period pain, a study has found.
The study conducted by Australian and New Zealand researchers also found it relieved associated headaches and nausea.
It was a small pilot study of 74 women aged between 18 and 45 which found that more than half had at least a 50% reduction in the severity of their period pain after undergoing acupuncture treatment.
The women underwent the treatment for three months, with the effects lasting for up to a year.
Many of the women also reported less of a need to use painkillers to treat their period pain and an improvement in secondary symptoms including headaches and nausea.
Many also experienced improvements in PMS-related symptoms such as mood swings.

>More women freeze eggs
In western countries, soaring numbers of women are freezing their eggs as an "insurance policy" to beat their biological clock.
Career women have long been thought to be putting motherhood on ice because they choose their job over a baby.
However, most women who freeze their eggs are doing so not because of their career but because they cannot find a similarly successful man.
Marcia Inhorn, professor of anthropology at Yale University, said of women who freeze their eggs: "There are not enough graduates for them. In simple terms, this is about an oversupply of educated women."
The gender gap for higher education is now as large as that between rich and poor people.
Describing the phenomenon, Professor Inhorn said: "Maybe women need to be prepared to be more open to the idea of a relationship with someone not as educated."

>Smartphone makes you dumb
Now there is evidence for the common belief that the smartphones in our pockets are actually making us dumber.
The constant presence of a mobile phone has a "brain drain" effect that significantly reduces people's intelligence and attention spans, said researchers at the University of Texas.
They discovered that people are worse at conducting tasks and remembering information if they have a smartphone within eye shot, even when the phone is set up not to disturb or switched off.
Meanwhile, the negative effect was worse for those who were deemed more dependent on their mobiles.
The researchers said the effect arises because part of a smartphone users' mind is dedicated to trying to not think about distractions, such as whether they have any messages, when the handset is in their line of sight.
