>China's 3rd national soil census kicks off
今年开展第三次全国土壤普查

The State Council, China's cabinet, has decided to conduct the third national soil condition census from 2022 to 2025, according to a circular released Wednesday. The census will target soil on arable land, garden plot, forest land, grassland and other agricultural lands around the country, including some unused land, the circular said.
2月16日，国务院印发《关于开展第三次全国土壤普查的通知》，决定自2022年起开展第三次全国土壤普查。普查对象为全国耕地、园地、林地、草地等农用地和部分未利用地的土壤。普查时间为2022—2025年。

The census aims to find out soil types and distribution around the country, as well as current status and changing trends in soil resources, while acquiring basic data such as soil quality, properties and utilization status, in order to improve protection and utilization of soil resources.
《通知》明确，全面查明查清我国土壤类型及分布规律、土壤资源现状及变化趋势，真实准确掌握土壤质量、性状和利用状况等基础数据，提升土壤资源保护和利用水平。

>Qi wins gold in freeski men's aerials
齐广璞自由式滑雪男子空中技巧夺金

Chinese free skier Qi Guangpu scored 129 points to grab the men's aerials gold in his fourth Olympic appearance at Beijing 2022 on Wednesday. It's the seventh gold for China in the ongoing Beijing Winter Olympics, and the third Olympic gold for the Chinese freeski aerials team in history.
2月16日，在北京2022年冬奥会自由式滑雪男子空中技巧决赛中，第4次参加冬奥会的中国队选手齐广璞以129分的高分力压群雄，这是中国队本届冬奥会的第七枚金牌，也是中国自由式滑雪空中技巧队在历届冬奥会上获得的第三枚金牌。

After Han Xiaopeng was crowned in the men's aerials at Turin 2006, China waited 16 years to see its second aerials gold taken by Xu Mengtao on Monday night in the women's aerials.

>China's CPI up 0.9% in January
1月CPI同比涨幅回落至0.9%

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 0.9 percent year on year in January, down from the 1.5-percent increase a month ago, the National Bureau of Statistics said Wednesday.
国家统计局2月16日发布数据，1月份，全国居民消费价格指数（CPI）同比上涨0.9%，涨幅比上月回落0.6个百分点。

A breakdown of the data showed that food prices dropped 3.8 percent year on year, a decline 2.6 percentage points higher than in December 2021.
其中，食品价格下降3.8%，降幅比上月扩大2.6个百分点。

The price of pork, a staple meat in China, slumped 41.6 percent year on year, compared with a 36.7-percent decrease a month ago.
猪肉价格同比下降41.6%，降幅较上月扩大4.9个百分点。

Non-food prices rose 2 percent from a year earlier, eased from the 2.1-percent increase reported in the previous month.
非食品价格上涨2.0%，涨幅比上月回落0.1个百分点。

The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, gained 1.2 percent year on year, flat with a month ago.
1月扣除食品和能源价格的核心CPI同比上涨1.2%，涨幅与上月相同。

Wednesday's data also showed the country's producer price index, which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, went up 9.1 percent year on year in January.
1月份，全国工业生产者出厂价格指数(PPI)同比上涨9.1%。

>High marks for sustainable artificial snow
北京冬奥人造雪获运动员盛赞

Beijing normally doesn't have much snow in winter, so artificial snow is being used at venues for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, with the quality of the white snow drawing praise from many athletes, and even officials.
北京的冬天一般降雪量不大，因此2022北京冬奥会的比赛场地使用了人造雪，这些洁白的人造雪的质量获得了许多运动员和官员的称赞。

"This is by far the best man-made snow I've ever skied on," American freestyle skier Ashley Caldwell said at a press conference.
美国自由式滑雪运动员阿什利•考德威尔在一次新闻发布会上表示：“这是我迄今为止滑过的最好的人造雪。”

After receiving feedback from many athletes through the training period and first days of competition, Kit McConnell, sports director of the International Olympic Committee, said the participants believe the artificial snow is outstanding.

"The focus is on doing this in a sustainable way, and also ensuring the athletes have an outstanding field of play on which to compete at the Olympic level," McConnell said.
