伊朗总统哈塔米(Khatami)以高达77%的得票率赢得于8日举行的全国大选，从而获得连任。以这么高的得票率获胜，我们说哈塔米取得了landslide victory，即以绝对优势取得胜利。Landslide原意是山崩、滑坡的意思，然而用在政治场合，尤其是竞选中，landslide就是"一方选票占压倒性多数，一面倒的胜利"的意思。我们可以用 "to win in a landslide"， "have a landslide victory" "to win the election by landslide"这几种表达方式来表示"以绝对优势取得胜利"的意思。请看这样的例句： Iran's reformist President Mohammad Khatami swept to a landslide victory Saturday. Turkey, which wants to join the European Union itself, had hoped an agreement on Cyprus would help its cause. 汉语中我们用“孤注一掷”来比喻在情况危急时，竭尽全力作最后一次冒险的行为，英文中相对应的词就是last-ditch，last-ditch的意思是：done as one last effort before accepting defeat，上文中的a last-ditch attempt可以解释为“最后一次努力”。 |

Launch在英语里是个很常用的词。它的原意是"发射（卫星、鱼雷等）；使（船）下水"，"launch pad"是发射台的意思。Launch后来引申为"发动（战争等）；开展（运动、斗争等）"的意思，例如外电的这样一则新闻标题"Israel Launches Missile Strike in Gaza Strip"（以色列开始对加沙地带发射导弹）。Launch out at somebody 则是"攻击或抨击某人"的意思，例如：He suddenly launched out at me for no reason at all.
