Sub rosa
“躺在玫瑰花下面（sub rosa）”是什么意思呢？是指甜蜜的爱情，还是舒适的生活？其实这个短语含有一个不可告人的“秘密”。

sub rosa源于罗马古代神话，透着几丝神秘和诙谐。罗马人的神话故事是这样的：在一个晴朗的下午，一个名叫哈波奎特斯（Harpocrates）的小神仙偶然发现了维纳斯女神的地下恋情。当时维纳斯的儿子丘比特恰好就在附近，他害怕哈波奎特斯将此事嚷嚷出去，就要求他发誓保守秘密，还急中生智地送他一朵美丽的玫瑰作为报答，从而保住了母亲的名誉。哈波奎特斯后来的确对此事缄口不言，被称为“缄默之神”，而那朵玫瑰花也从此成为“缄默不语，保守秘密”的象征。

这个有趣的神话就像长了腿一样传得飞快，很快就风行欧洲大陆。在中世纪的法国或英国，如果餐桌上放了一支玫瑰花，多半就是主人在含蓄地提醒客人餐桌上的谈话属于个人隐私，最好不要到处乱讲。

今天，sub rosa仍然表示“秘密地、私下地”，有时暗指不合法的私下勾当，也写作under the rose.
