6月13日晚，智利北部地区发生里氏7.9级的强震，导致至少八人死亡，数人受伤。外电报道如下：A powerful earthquake rattled Chile's remote
northern Andes near the Bolivian border Monday, killing at least eight
people and causing widespread damage in several mountain villages.
Interior Minister Jorge Correa said there could be more victims in some
isolated communities, but added no details were immediately available
because of poor communications.
The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.9, according to both the
U.S. Geological Survey and Chilean officials, making it the world's third
strongest temblor since the quake that set off an Asian tsunami in
December.

据悉，受灾最严重的是智利北部港口城市伊基克和阿里卡，强震导致电力中断，居民纷纷逃离家园。智利国家紧急事务处理中心表示，根据专家分析，这次地震的震中在山区，而不是在海里，因此不会引发海啸。
