  Words and phrases

1.  stray from=stay away from（远离）；stray from有时候也可以作“走失”，例如：stray from one's group 离群走散。

2.  not only……but……: 通常我们遇到这个词组的时候，它是以not only……but also……的形式出现。不过在英美国家，去掉also的形式出现的频率更高。

3.  I watched you die: 这里的die不是指“死去”，而是借die这个词来突出主人公的“憔悴”和“萎靡”

4. damn: 在英语中，人们常常用它来发泄心中的不满。它可以是动词，其意义为：

·谴责，例如：The critics damned the play.（评论家们谴责该剧。）

·使失败,毁掉，例如：The expedition was damned from the start.（那次探险一开始就注定会失败。）

它也可以作名词，意为“诅咒”。

而在日常生活中，它被广泛的用于口语中，意为“该死，讨厌”，是一个语气词。例如：Damn it! I forgot to turn off the gas.（该死! 我忘关煤气了。）
