He suffered years of cardiac problems that required several major operations. The Kremlin said President Vladimir Putin telephoned Mr Yeltsin's widow Naina to offer his condolences. Despite a campaign to discredit him, the Kremlin also announced that the late president would be given a state funeral on Wednesday.

报道中的“state funeral”指的就是“国葬”。“State”在此表示“与国事有关的，正式的”，如：state dinner（国宴）、state car（贵宾车）、state visit（国事访问）、the State Guest House（国宾馆）。

此外，因为俄罗斯前总统叶利钦死于心脏衰竭，这里顺便提两个医学词汇：cardio-vascular problem（心血管疾病）；heart bypass surgery（心脏搭桥手术）。
