Woman's love for lychee proves fatal
A 74-year-old
woman's passion for lychee cost her her life on Monday after she fell from a
tree trying to get to her beloved fruit.
The woman was at her sister's
home in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong when she saw a tree full of the tasty treats. Her
brother-in-law warned her that the tree would be slippery because of recent
rain, but she headed on up the ladder nonetheless. She managed to gather half a
basketful of lychee, but lost her footing on the way down and fell to her death.
Arguing mom and son team up to fight police
Police got more than they bargained for when they went to investigate a
complaint of a disturbance between a mother and a son in Sha Tin, Hong Kong on
Sunday.
Instead of fighting each other, the irate parent and child
turned their rage toward the officers and assaulted them. A fight broke out
between the family members at 1 am on Sunday at the food stall where they had
been eating and drinking. It became so loud that people living upstairs called
the police. They stopped quarrelling after policemen showed up, but when
questioned, the mother called the officers "busybodies" and smashed a beer
bottle against the table while her son pushed another officer to the ground.
Both were
arrested.
