when waiting for the offer to come..
[ 2007-02-12 19:09 ]

For most applicants who would like to study abroad, now is their "torturing" period. They are like "ants on the hot pot", waiting eagerly for the offer to come. As one American professor in Jinan University said:" it's like telling a four-year-old kid in candy shop to calm down", obviously, it's not easy.

But indeed, there is not much to do expect waiting. Things are out of control on the other side of the earth. Some go to the famous "Sleeping Buddha Temple" (because "WOFO" in Chinese has the same pronunciation with the magic English word "offer" that everybody expects) to worship, hoping it can bring them good luck. They are experiencing the anxiety that is much more intense than ever.

There is no blame for such behavior, considering its inside good wishes. But on a second thought: how can we simply hand this over to Buddha? Most applicants have indeed paid a lot for this dream. From TOEFL to GRE, from GMAT to LSAT, from PS (personal statement) to CV, from looking for schools to contacting professors, this process is worthy the name of "Long March" for the applicants. Considering all its difficulties they once faced, we can’t help but wonder: how come they lose the confidence now? Still, the answer is things are out of reach here in China.

However, they really shouldn't be worried. For the determination they have made and the great efforts they have ever paid, they are already the heroes among contemporary college students. No matter the results, they belong to the few who dare to give themselves a try. They have conquered a great deal in order to "sell" themselves outside and the mere courage deserves huge respect. It's understandable that they are getting anxious now from previous months or even years of hard work. But they should have faith in the proverb: God always help those who help themselves. And they are the ones who did already.
