In his report, Hu Jintao said the Communist Party must exercise absolute leadership over the armed forces. He calls for a revolution in military affairs with Chinese characteristics so the armed forces will be further modernized and standardized through science and technology. Hu vowed the army is determined to safeguard China's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and help maintain world peace.
