两词区别: Split or Crack?

Hello! Could you please help explain the difference between split and crack when we describe a piece of plank or wooden furniture? Also could you please tell me the difference between scratches, crush, chipped and dented when we say something was damaged during transport? I often see these different words but always get confused about what exactly they mean. Thank you and kind regards.

Have you ever received something through the post only to find it has been damaged? There are many words you can use to describe the damage depending on what's happened.

The type of damage usually depends on the material that the object is made of. For example, some hard things crack while wooden things split. Crushed things can be dented or crushed.
