在LT论坛上，看到了一个人气巨旺的贴子 -- 如何译“孩子是父母的翻版？”
看来，大家往往对地道的中文情有独钟！但愿，LT能与您共同探讨出一个较为地道的英文表达。
“翻版”之参考译文一：The kid is like a mirror image of his parent。口语中，尤其在八卦新闻中，“mirror
image”常用来表达“孩子是父母的翻版”。显然，物理现象中的“镜像”在此有了比喻义“一模一样”，如：The girl has long legs and
enchanting lips exactly like her mother's; she's like a mirror
image.（这个小姑娘简直是她妈妈的翻版，有着和她妈妈一样的长腿及迷人的嘴唇。）
“翻版”之参考译文二：The kid is a spitting image of his parent.“Spitting
image”是个俚语，尤指“血缘关系上的相像”。关于其渊源，现存的版本很多：“spitting image”大致发展历史为“spit（19世纪早期）-spit
and image（19世纪晚期）-spitting image（现代）”。
据记载，“spit”表“相似”最早可追溯到15世纪的古老谚语“as like as one as if he had been spit out of
his
mouth”。至于为什么酷似对方就像是从对方口里吐出来一样，没人能够说清楚。一种观点认为，“spit”在此表示“吐沫”；另一种说法则指出，“spit”在此大概指男子的“精液”。
在日常运用中，古用法“spit”和“spit and image”已渐渐淡出历史舞台，人们更喜欢用“spitting
image”来表达“酷似”或“翻版”。
