“生态文明” conservation culture

今年十七大报告中首次提出了“生态文明”的概念，要求加强能源资源节约和生态环境保护，增强可持续发展能力。这也让我们看到了，在精神文明、物质文明、政治文明之外，生态文明也将成为国人的另一个建设目标。

"(We will) promote a conservation culture by basically forming an energy- and resource-efficient and environment-friendly structure of industries, pattern of growth and mode of consumption, " said Hu.

Hu added that China will have a large-scale circular economy and considerably increase the proportion of renewable energy resources in total energy consumption, bring the discharge of major pollutants under effective control and notably improve ecological and environmental quality.

"Awareness of conservation will be firmly established in the whole of society," Hu said.

胡锦涛说，要建设生态文明，基本形成节约能源资源和保护生态环境的产业结构、增长方式、消费模式。循环经济形成较大规模，可再生能源比重显著上升。主要污染物排放得到有效控制，生态环境质量明显改善。生态文明观念在全社会牢固树立。

“生态文明”即“conservation culture”；“生态文明观”为“awareness of conservation”。
