The climbing season for Mount Fuji, Japan's highest peak, is cancelled for this year, after local officials announced on Monday that the mountain trails leading up to the summit will stay closed throughout the summer due to the novel coronavirus.
日本官员18日表示，受新冠肺炎疫情影响，今年整个夏季，通往日本最高山峰富士山的所有登山步道将一直保持封闭，意味着今年登山季富士山将封山。

Shizuoka Prefecture, which manages three of the four trails that lead to the peak, made the announcement following a similar announcement made by a neighboring prefecture that manages the fourth trail.
