>Mars rover travels over 509 meters

China's Mars rover Zhurong traveled more than 509 meters on the surface of the red planet as of 11 pm Saturday, according to the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration. The rover will soon arrive at the second sand dune on its journey on the red planet. It will carry out a detailed survey of the dune and surrounding environment, said the administration.

As of Saturday, Zhurong had been operating on the surface of Mars for 63 Martian days.

A Martian day is approximately 40 minutes longer than a day on Earth.

About 375 million km away from Earth, the orbiter of Tianwen-1 had operated in orbit for 359 days as of Saturday. The delay of its one-way communication was around 21 minutes.

Both the Mars rover Zhurong and Tianwen-1 spacecraft are working in normal conditions, with their subsystems operating normally, according to the administration.

>China's flag-bearers at Tokyo 2020

Women's volleyball team captain Zhu Ting and taekwondo athlete Zhao Shuai have been named as the Chinese delegation's flag-bearers at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Chinese Olympic Committee announced late on Saturday.

In a statement posted on its social media account, COC said that China's Olympic flag-bearers have always attracted major attention and been a hot topic of discussion.

"Taking representation of the athletes and competition schedule into consideration, the delegation has confirmed its flag-bearers following widespread consultation and prudent consideration," read the statement.

Zhu helped team China claim the Olympic gold medal in volleyball in Rio five years ago, while Zhao made history by winning China's first Olympic gold in men's taekwondo when he triumphed in the 58kg category at the Rio Olympics.

>Suborbital carrier makes maiden flight

A reusable suborbital carrier landed stably at an airport in Alxa League in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region during a flight demonstration and verification project on Friday. Earlier on Friday, the carrier was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwest China's Gobi Desert. Its first flight mission was a complete success.

Developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, the reusable suborbital carrier can be used in the space transport system. The success of the flight has laid a solid foundation for the development of China's reusable space transportation.

>Incredible list of inventory shipped to Japan

A dozen horses, 132 sofas, 40,000 tea bags and a red telephone box barely scrape the surface of the inventory that the British Olympic Association have shipped to Japan for this summer's delayed Tokyo Games.

Barring any late hiccups, 375 Team GB athletes will compete in Tokyo, the largest number at any Games on foreign soil since the 389 went to Spain 29 years ago.

They will also be accompanied by more than 500 coaches and other support staff.

"One of the big differences this time is the amount of Covid mitigation supplies, including face masks, PPE, sanitizer and some specialist equipment such as self-sanitizing button covers for lifts," says Mark England, of the British Olympic Association.
