>China's CPI up 0.9 pct in February

China's consumer price index, a main gauge of inflation, rose 0.9 percent year-on-year in February, flat from the growth seen in the same period last year, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed Wednesday. On a monthly basis, the CPI gained 0.6 percent due to rising food demand during Spring Festival, which fell in February this year, along with fluctuations in global energy prices, senior NBS statistician Dong Lijuan noted.
国家统计局3月9日发布数据，2月份，全国居民消费价格指数（CPI）同比上涨0.9%，同比涨幅总体平稳。国家统计局城市司高级统计师董莉娟分析，受春节因素和国际能源价格波动等共同影响，CPI环比上涨0.6%。

Food prices went up 1.4 percent from the previous month, driving up monthly consumer inflation by 0.26 percentage points, according to the data.
从环比看，食品价格上涨1.4%，影响CPI上涨约0.26个百分点。

Prices for industrial consumption products rose 0.8 percent from January, fueled by high global energy costs. The prices of gasoline, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas went up 6.2, 6.7 and 1.3 percent, respectively.
非食品中，工业消费品价格上涨0.8%，主要是能源价格上涨带动，其中汽油、柴油和液化石油气价格分别上涨6.2%、6.7%和1.3%。

China has imposed strict punishment on corruption-related crimes in accordance with the law, according to a work report from the country's top court made public Tuesday.

Chinese courts concluded 23,000 cases related to corruption, bribery and dereliction of duty in 2021 involving 27,000 people, according to a report from the Supreme People's Court submitted to the ongoing session of the national legislature for deliberation.
2021年，人民法院审结贪污贿赂、渎职等案件2.3万件2.7万人。

Efforts were made to bring back illicit money and goods related to duty crimes and 59.66 billion yuan were recovered.

China will continue its routine COVID-19 control measures this year, with a focus on rolling out targeted and scientific measures to minimize their impact on normal production and life, as well as accelerating research into vaccines and medicines, according to the Government Work Report released on Saturday.

The country will stick to its strategy of preventing imported infections and domestic flare-ups while refining its virus containment measures by stepping up the capabilities of port cities, intensifying studies into virus mutations and continuing the mass vaccination campaign.

>Biden announces Russian energy embargo

US President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced the imposition of an energy embargo on Russia, banning US imports of oil, liquefied natural gas and coal from Russia over its ongoing military operations in Ukraine.
美国总统拜登3月8日宣布，美国将对俄罗斯实施能源禁运，停止从俄进口石油、天然气和煤炭。

"This means Russian oil will no longer be acceptable to US ports," the president said in remarks delivered from the White House.

He claimed the move will deal a "powerful blow" to Russia's ability to sustain funding for its military operations, while also admitting it will backfire at home by causing continued price hikes at gas stations.
