> Chinese police report major organized crime crackdown

Chinese police dismantled more than 160 organized crime groups and 1,520 criminal gangs in 2022 amid ongoing efforts to combat organized crime, the Ministry of Public Security said on Monday.
公安部近日发布的数据显示，全国公安机关2022年共打掉涉黑组织160余个、恶势力犯罪集团1520余个，持续推动扫黑除恶斗争向纵深发展。

More than 20,000 criminal cases were concluded last year, the ministry said, noting these represented the achievements of a three-year nationwide campaign against organized crime launched in January 2018.
2022年共破获各类刑事案件2万余起，有力巩固了扫黑除恶专项斗争成果。自2018年开始，全国开展为期三年的扫黑除恶专项斗争。

The police took down 28 organized crime groups and 229 gangs active in rural areas, effectively maintaining social order in China's countryside, the ministry said.
公安机关打掉涉及农村地区涉黑组织28个、恶势力犯罪集团229个，有效维护了农村地区社会治安稳定。

The ministry added it would coordinate with special operations targeting the education sector, loan activities and the circulation of goods and services to prevent gang-related crimes.
公安机关将全力配合做好教育、金融放贷、市场流通等重点行业领域专项整治工作，全力遏制黑恶势力犯罪交织蔓延。

《流浪地球2》里的MOSS，被复旦大学做出来了

MOSS, the first large-scale conversational language model in China, will be made open-source software by the end of March, according to its research and development team.
国内近期推出了第一个对话式大型语言模型MOSS，据其研发团队称，该模型将于3月底成为开源软件。

Named after the artificial intelligence-based computer that controls the space station in the popular Chinese sci-fi film The Wandering Earth II, MOSS became the first ChatGPT-like software to be unveiled in China.
MOSS以中国热门科幻电影《流浪地球2》中控制空间站的人工智能计算机命名，成为中国推出的首个类似ChatGPT软件。

It was made available for public testing on Feb 20.
它于2月20日开始公开测试。

Many people were quick to test the software and share their experiences online.

The traffic was so heavy the platform had to be suspended for an upgrade due to overload.

"The plan is to have MOSS interact with humans for a month so as to optimize it. If everything goes well, it will be made open-source by the end of March," Qiu Xipeng, director of the Natural Language Processing Committee of the Shanghai Computer Society, told ThePaper.cn during the 2023 Global Artificial Intelligence Developers Conference in Shanghai on Sunday. The society is leading the R&D.
“MOSS大模型计划在一个月之内，和人类不断交互，进行优化，顺利的话将于3月底开源。” 复旦大学计算机科学技术学院教授、上海市计算机学会自然语言处理专委会主任邱锡鹏在2023全球人工智能开发者先锋大会（GAIDC）上说。

Making MOSS open-source can effectively reduce the threshold for the development and application of pre-trained language models, thus allowing small and medium-sized enterprises to develop various vertical products, such as smart customer service, smart home and AI lawyers on its foundation.
邱锡鹏表示， MOSS开源后，可有效降低预训练语言模型的研发和应用门槛，让中小企业在其基础上开发出智能客服、智能家居、人工智能律师等各种垂直类产品。

"MOSS still has a lot of room for improvement," Qiu said. "But its advent proves domestic scientific research has the ability to overcome important technical challenges on the way to developing ChatGPT-like products."
“MOSS仍然有很大的改进空间，”邱锡鹏说。“但它的出现证明了国内科研团队有能力在开发类ChatGPT的产品的过程中克服重要的技术挑战。”
