> Tallest tree in Asia found in Tibet
西藏102.3米“高树”刷新亚洲纪录

The record for the tallest tree in Asia was revised this week, as the Chinese researchers of a scientific investigation led by Peking University announced that they discovered a giant cypress measuring 102.3 meters in the Tibet autonomous region.
近日，由北京大学牵头的联合调查队在位于雅鲁藏布国家级自然保护区内，发现了一棵高达102.3米的巨型柏木，此次发现刷新了按树种排名的亚洲纪录。

The record-breaking tree, called Cupressus torulosa, was found at the national nature reserve of Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon in Bome county, Nyingchi city.
这棵破纪录的树名为西藏柏木，是在林芝市波姆县的雅鲁藏布大峡谷国家自然保护区发现的。

The team members used drones and laser radar to map the local cypress aggregation area and confirmed the presence of the 102.3-meter tree.
联合调查队通过采用无人机激光雷达对西藏柏木的聚生区域进行精确测绘，并确认了这棵102.3米高的树的存在。

They also detected a large number of trees over 85 meters high, including 25 measuring over 90 meters.

The findings have also contributed to the region having the highest density of giant trees in China and Asia, said a team member from Peking University.

Mainly distributed in southeastern Tibet, the tree has a narrow distribution area and a small population. It has been listed as a national first-class protected plant.

The Wolong National Nature Reserve has released full footage of a rare all-white giant panda.

Infrared cameras captured footage of the world's only all-white panda approaching a mother panda and her cub on Saturday.

The distinctive creature was captured on infrared cameras about 2,000 meters above sea level in the reserve in April 2019.

With no spots on its body and unique red eyes, the wild giant panda was thought to be an albino, hitherto the only one of its kind anywhere on Earth.

In the video, the all-white panda walks toward the mother panda and the cub resting in a tree hollow and signals for interaction.

"The cub in the footage is about one to two years old, and the all-white panda is nearly the size of an adult. At the end of February, wild pandas in Wolong have entered the estrus season, during which the female pandas with cubs can be very aggressive when an adult panda approaches or invades," said Wei Rongping, a senior engineer at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas. "This female panda was extremely 'calm' and did not conform to the general rule. One possibility is that the female panda is the mother of the all-white panda," Wei added.
“画面中的幼崽约1到2岁，而白色大熊猫的体型已接近成年个体大小。2月底，卧龙已进入野生大熊猫发情季，这时遇见成年大熊猫靠近或入侵，一般带崽的母熊猫会表现出很强的攻击性，”。中国大熊猫保护研究中心教授级高级工程师魏荣平说，“这只母熊猫表现极其‘淡定’，不太符合一般规律。有一种可能，这只母熊猫是白色大熊猫的妈妈。”

The staff at the nature reserve are attempting to collect DNA samples from the white panda to learn more about this rare creature.
自然保护区的工作人员正试图从这只白色大熊猫身上采集DNA样本，以进一步了解这种稀有生物。

"By means of the current investigation, experiments and tests, we are trying to find out whether there are other white pandas in this area and what their status quo is," said He Tingmei, deputy managing director of the nature reserve.
