Question: Is there a difference in English between I cut my hair and I had my hair cut?
In the first sentence, you are the one holding the scissors. In the second, you are paying someone money to cut your hair for you. The second sentence is also in passive voice.
Here is another example of three different meanings:
• I washed my car. (I did it myself)
• I had Mary wash my car. (Mary did it because I asked her to)
• I had my car washed. (It doesn’t matter who did it. But I probably paid money to get it washed).
