“好心的撒玛利亚人”这个典故来自《圣经·路加福音10》（LUKE 10）“好心的撒玛利亚人的比喻”（The Parable of the Good Samaritan）。传说有一个商人从耶路撒冷到耶利哥，不幸在路上被强盗抢光所有的财物，扒光所有的衣服，赤身裸体，并且被打得遍体鳞伤。一位祭祀的人路过，但是他假装没看见离开了。一个利末人也从他的身边走过。就在他奄奄一息的时候，好心的撒玛利亚人路过，把他救起，放在自己的驴背上，并带他到一家小旅店给他养伤。当撒玛利亚人要离开的时候，还不忘给店主二钱银子，拜托他帮忙照顾这位受伤的人。

从此之后，圣经中的这个典故就被借用来指“好心人”了。
