到2050年，中国人均预期寿命可以达到85岁，这是日前由中科院提出的未来几十年我国可持续发展战略目标之一。专家们同时指出，到2050年，全国人均受教育的年限将从现在的8.2年提升到14年以上。

The number of years a Chinese child spends in school will almost double to 14 years and an increasingly affluent population will spend a far smaller proportion of their income on food.

报道中的“average life expectancy”指的是“人均预期寿命”。“Expectancy”是动词“expect”（期望，预计）相应的名词形式，可用来形容“期望的状态、被期望物、预期数额”。显然， “life expectancy”（预期寿命）取其第三种意思“预期数额”，如：damage expectancy（估计损失）。

此外，若不想强调“预期”，“寿命”也可用“life span”来表达，如：A pair of tights has the lifespan of a mayfly.（紧身袜裤的使用寿命极短。）
