The world's biggest luxury goods company is buying US-based jeweler Tiffany & Co for more than $16 billion.

The largest luxury goods deal to date gives LVMH's billionaire owner Bernard Arnault a bigger slice of one of the fastest growing upmarket sectors.

He said Tiffany had an "unparalleled heritage" and fitted with his other brands.

The brand is associated with diamond rings but it has lost its appeal in recent years, according to Fiona Cincotta, market analyst at City Index.

>Global launch of Chinese comic
多语种'三体'漫画版上线

Tencent Holdings has launched an online comic book adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem", China's most popular science fiction novel - its first such global launch in multiple languages as it seeks to drum up overseas interest for Chinese content.
我国最受欢迎的科幻小说《三体》的在线漫画版近日在腾讯上线。这是腾讯在寻求将中国文学推向世界的背景下首次以多语种向全球推出中国动漫作品。

The comic series, based on Liu Cixin’s Hugo Award-winning book about a secret organization that collaborates with hostile aliens to take over Earth, was made available on Tencent's WeComics platform from Saturday in Chinese, English and Thai.
《三体》漫画基于刘慈欣的原著改编，这部小说还曾获得"雨果奖"，主要讲述了一个神秘组织意图与怀有敌意的外星生命合作，意欲掌控地球的故事。漫画本月23日起在腾讯WeComics平台上线，有中文、英文和泰文三个语言版本。

Liu is one of China's most celebrated science fiction writers.
刘慈欣是中国最负盛名的科幻作家之一。

Another of his novels, "The Wandering Earth", was adapted into a movie which became China's third-highest grossing film.

>English proficiency ranking
国人英语达到'中等熟练'

Chinese people's English proficiency has improved in the past year and, for the first time, has reached a moderate level relative to other non-English-speaking countries, a report released on Tuesday said.
26日发布的一份报告显示，中国人的英语水平在过去一年里有所提高，相比其它非英语国家的使用者而言，首次晋级中等熟练度。

China's English proficiency ranking rose seven places from last year to 40th among 100 countries and regions, according to Swedish education company EF Education First's 2019 English Proficiency Index.
瑞典教育机构英孚发布的2019英孚英语熟练度指标显示，中国人的英语熟练度排名较去年上升了七个名次，在100个国家和地区中排名第40位。

Adults from Netherlands were the best English speakers from non-English-speaking countries, followed by those from Sweden, Norway and Denmark, it said.

In a separate ranking for English proficiency in Chinese cities, Shanghai ranked first for the sixth consecutive year, followed by Beijing, Hong Kong and Tianjin.

The average anticipated monthly salary of Chinese college graduates is 7,409 yuan and first-tier cities are still the top choice for job seekers, a new report on employment has found.

The best employment destination for college students is Beijing, followed by Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shenzhen.

The popularity of Nanjing, Changsha, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, Jinan and Suzhou has also increased among job seekers, the report read.

More than 24% of college students would like to work in the field of IT/internet, followed by finance (14.14%) and education/training (11.41%).
