中美两国签署《旅游合作谅解备忘录》的消息一经传出后，引起了旅游界的广泛关注，因为意味着最晚不超过明年年底，美国将成为中国公民自费旅游的“乐土”。Shanghai Daily报道如下：The United States may open to Chinese group tours next year, but travelers will have to put down a substantial deposit before booking a trip to America.
Group tourists will be required to pay travel agencies a deposit of about 100,000 yuan (US$12,000) before their trips, which is refundable after they return.
Deposit表示“保证金，订金”，例如：funds on deposit with a broker（抵押在经纪人处的资金）；He left a $100 deposit toward the purchase of a stereo system.（他为买一套立体声系统，留下了100美元的订金。）
据估计，将来赴美旅游者必须缴纳几万元的保证金方可成行，因为游客一旦滞留不归，旅行社将承担巨大风险。由于目前美国并未成为中国公民自费旅游目的地国，所以国内旅行社都是以商务团在经营美洲旅游线路，最常规的东西连线加夏威夷14天的报价在2.8万至3万元之间。
