Missing the boat 错失良机 [ 2007-03-28 10:04 ]
“错过机会”怎么说?相信很多人马上就会想到“miss the
opportunity”,这个说法没错。这次呢,我们来给大家介绍两个常用的表示“错失良机”的习语,用起来语言会更生动些。
1. Missing the boat 错过(好机会、好东西等)
A: Jenny is not coming today. She decided to go shopping with her sister
instead. Jenny 今天晚上不来了。她决定改跟她姐姐逛街去了。
B: I see somebody is missing the boat. I wonder how she's going to feel once
she finds out who's here tonight. 有人错过大好机会了。我想知道她一旦知道今天晚上谁在这里时的反应会是怎么样。
“Missing the boat”的原意是“错过要搭的船”,在口语里常被用来指“错失……”的意思。
2. If You Snooze, You Lose! 如果你不注意,就错过良机了。
A: Hey! Where did all the cake go? I haven't got any of it.
嘿!蛋糕都到哪儿去了?我一点都没吃到。
B: There's no cake left. Your brother ate the last piece. If you snooze, you
lose! (蛋糕)都没了。你弟弟吃了最后一块。你没快点行动,机会就没了啊!
有些闹钟上面有一个让你可以在闹钟响后, 再小睡一下的按键。这个按键就叫“snooze”。所以“If you snooze, you lose.”
的意思就是“如果你贪睡的话,你就不会赢了”,经常用来表示“如果你不注意/不快点行动,就会失去机会了。”
