10月17日是第六个国家扶贫日，国务院扶贫开发领导小组办公室表示，预计到今年年底，全国95%现行标准的贫困人口将实现脱贫。
Ninety-five percent of the country's poor population will escape poverty by the end of the year, China's top poverty relief office said on Friday in the run-up to the sixth National Poverty Relief Day on Oct 17.

2014年8月1日，国务院决定从2014年起，将每年10月17日设立为“扶贫日” 。设立“扶贫日”充分体现了党中央、国务院对于扶贫开发工作的高度重视，也充分体现了对于贫困地区贫困群众的格外关心，设立“扶贫日”是继续向贫困宣战的一个重要的举措，也是广泛动员社会各方面力量参与扶贫开发的一项重要的制度安排。改革开放以来，特别是上世纪80年代中期，我们国家开始有计划、有组织、大规模扶贫开发以来，我国的扶贫开发事业取得了举世瞩目的伟大成就。扶贫开发为促进经济发展、政治稳定、民族团结、边疆巩固和社会和谐都发挥了重要作用，也为全球的减贫事业作出了重大贡献。2013—2018年，我国农村贫困人口从9899万减少到1660万，每年减贫人数都保持在1200万以上，832个贫困县已脱贫摘帽436个。
