美限制中国留学生入境

The US visa restriction on Chinese students and researchers severely undermined their legitimate rights and interests, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Tuesday.
外交部发言人赵立坚6月2日表示，美国对中国留学生和研究人员赴美签证的限制严重侵犯了他们的正当权益。

The US side's latest action under an abused concept of national security and flimsy excuses "runs counter to the common aspiration for friendly people-to-people exchange," as Chinese students and researchers have been an important bond of friendship and bridge for scientific and educational exchange between Chinese and American people, Zhao said.
他指出，中国留学生和研究人员一向是中美科技教育交流和两国人民友谊的重要桥梁。美方泛化国家安全概念，以莫须有的罪名出台措施限制中国留学人员赴美签证，完全违背两国人民开展友好交流的共同愿望。

On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced the US is planning to cancel the visas of thousands of Chinese graduate students and researchers.
5月29日，美国总统特朗普宣布，美国计划取消数千名来自中国的研究生和研究人员的签证。

The New York Times cited US officials as saying that potentially affected students are those studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Washington alleges that their presence presents threats of technology theft.

Instagram users are flooding the platform with black squares in support of black victims of police violence as part of a Blackout Tuesday protest.

China's plan to transform Hainan into a free trade port is expected to spur local consumption and enhance competitiveness of duty-free products, while greatly stimulating tourism and the aviation industry on the island, experts said.

The plan includes exemptions of import duty, value-added tax and consumption tax on imported goods purchased by island residents. It also includes measures to increase the quota for offshore duty-free shopping to 100,000 yuan per person every year from 30,000 yuan and increase the number of categories of duty-free products. The plan also includes measures to boost tourism, including building a pilot zone for cruise tourism and a pilot zone for reform, development and innovation of the yacht industry.
方案内容包括：岛内居民购买进口商品时免除进口税、增值税和消费税；离岛免税购物额度从每人每年3万元提高至10万元，同时扩大免税商品种类；促进旅游业，包括建设游轮旅游试验区和游艇产业改革、发展和创新试验区。

武汉核酸普查结果公布

Wuhan city, in Hubei province, tested nearly 10 million residents in a 19-day drive to screen for novel coronavirus infections.
湖北省武汉市在19天内完成了对近1000万居民的新冠病毒筛查。

The city conducted nucleic acid tests on 9,899,828 residents between May 14 and June 1, according to a news conference on Tuesday. No confirmed COVID-19 cases were found in the process, said Lu Zuxun, professor with Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, at the event. Meanwhile, 300 asymptomatic cases were found and quarantined. All the tracked 1,174 close contacts tested negative for COVID-19 and were also quarantined, Lu said.
华中科技大学同济医学院公共卫生学院教授卢祖洵在6月2日召开的新闻发布会上介绍，5月14日至6月1日，武汉对9899828名居民进行了核酸检测，没有发现新冠病毒确诊病例，检出无症状感染者300名，追踪密切接触者1174名，其核酸检测结果均为阴性，对无症状感染者和密切接触者均进行了医学隔离观察。

Executive Deputy Mayor Hu Yabo said the city spent 900 million yuan on the tests, which was "totally worthwhile" as it reassured Wuhan residents, as well as the whole nation, and will help the city bring its social and economic activities back on track.
