In February 1939, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee held a production mobilization meeting in Yan'an, and Mao Zedong called for a "do it yourself" approach. In March 1941, the 359th Brigade of the 8th Route Army marched toward Nanniwan in the southeast of Yan'an to build a military settlement, and was regarded as a model in the production campaign.
1939年2月，中共中央在延安召开生产动员大会，毛泽东发出“自己动手”的号召。1941年3月，八路军第三五九旅开始开进延安东南的南泥湾实行军垦屯田，成为全军大生产运动的一面旗帜。
