A project for basketball training camps is now underway in China. The training camps are not only the result of joint efforts between the CBA and the NBA, they can also become a permanent training ground for the next generation of basketball talents in China.
As Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian become ever more popular in the NBA, China's basketball community is looking for its next superstars. Their efforts have not only promoted the sport in China, but has also helped improve the country's basketball team.
In order to give more young Chinese players a chance in the NBA, the CBA has launched the basketball training camp project, sponsored by Chinese footwear maker Anta.
Li Yuanwei, CBA Commissioner, said, "The discovery and training of young players mean a lot to the future of a country's basketball career. These training camps have shown great potentials for the growth of young CBA players and the development of CBA. I'm looking forward to seeing more and more cooperation in basketball between China and America in the future, and also more support in this area."
The partner in the project is none other than China's favorite NBA team, the Houston Rockets, where Yao Ming has become the main force. Houston's head coach Rick Adelman was appointed the director of the training camps.
China now has millions of basketball fans, and most of them are teenagers. The project is expected to discover and cultivate more talented Chinese players who will be the basketball superstars of the future.
