The clock derives its energy from electrolysis of the citric acid and this helps you leave those toxic batteries away. All you need to do is cut a lemon in half and place each piece on both spikes of copper and zinc and you're good to go. Technically, it's almost the same principle that Mr. Volta used to invent the battery in 1799: electrolysis of zinc and copper (the spikes under the lemon) in a salted or acid liquid (the lemon).

这种时钟可以从柠檬酸的电解过程中获取能量，这样你就不需要用那些有害的电池了。你需要做的只是将一个柠檬切成两半，一半放在铜钉上，另一半放在锌钉上，这样就可以了！从技术层面来讲，其原理与伏特先生1799年发明电池的原理差不多：铜和锌（即柠檬下面的长钉）在盐溶液或酸溶液（如柠檬）中电解。
