据统计，2000年我国养老金“空账”达360多亿元，而到了2005年底，“空账”已达8000亿元。为填补养老金“空账”，“提高法定退休年龄”被认为是解决“空账”的一大对策。据悉，今年年底，劳动和社会保障部有望推出有关延迟退休的报告。

看《中国日报》相关报道：The government is studying the feasibility of raising the mandatory retirement age to plug the huge deficit in the pension fund, the China Economic Weekly reports.

The social security fund was 800 billion yuan (US$102 billion) in the red at the end of last year, compared to 36 billion yuan (US$4.6 billion) in 2000.

报道中的“mandatory retirement age”指的是“法定退休年龄”，在一定语境下，“法定退休年龄”也可用“legal retirement age”来表达。不过，严格来讲，二者还是有细微的区别：“mandatory retirement age”意思是“到了某一年龄，（你）必须得退休”；“legal retirement age”指的是“到了某一年龄，（你）可以退休，但也可以根据个人情况继续工作”。

此外，公司合同上所“规定的退休年龄”常用“compulsory retirement age”来形容，而“实际退休年龄”则为“effective retirement age”。

值得一提的是，报道中的“pension”就是我们所说的“养老金”，而养老金“亏空”、“出现赤字”，可用“deficit”或“in the red”的相应表达来形容。
