Six Categories of Small Projects for Rural Areas

A summary of rural projects - water-efficient irrigation, potable water supplies, roads, methane gas production, hydroelectric plants, and pasture enclosures. At the Central Rural Work Conference in 2001, the central government decided to put more resources into the six categories as part of efforts to improve rural infrastructure, improve the livelihood of rural residents, protect the rural environment, and raise the income of farmers. The State invested 10.1 billion yuan in these projects in 2001. It was increased to 13.6 billion yuan and 28 billion yuan in 2002 and 2003 respectively.
