Volunteer badges are growing increasingly hot among Asian Games volunteers. Wherever you meet them, you can see volunteer badges on the strings of their Asian Games Identity and Accreditation Card, their chest or even their sleeves.
The Asian Games volunteer badges are distributed on a basis of a point redemption scheme of volunteering service hours as volunteers can redeem one service hour for one point. Different service responsibilities have different coefficients. When the points reach 100, 200 and 300, volunteers are eligible for a bronze badge, silver badge and gold badge respectively. For higher points of 400, a medal of sun will be awarded.
"Asian Games volunteering service hours in combination with volunteers badges, serving as an evaluation, management and inspiration system, do encourage volunteers to a great extent. They love the badges very much," an official from the Volunteers Department of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) said.
"The attendance machine is a cutting-edge gadget, which provides a sound basis for city volunteer management," Huang Haitian, Deputy Head of the Asian Games city volunteer service stations in Yuexiu Park told the reporter. Only core volunteers can start the attendance-checking machine and a slip with accurate service hours will be printed out. Since November 5, the system for Asian Games volunteering service hours have already been applied for city volunteers working in the 600 Asian Games city volunteer service stations.
An Asian Games volunteer can receive a colourful service medal for his/her two days' service and an Asian Para Games volunteer can get one for one day's service. Each volunteer can get 7 medals at most.
Asian Games volunteer Wei Zheyu, a student from Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, told that she has collected 43 volunteer badges for her 17-day Games service.
Chen Bohong, an Asian Games volunteer, said: "The badges can trigger our interest and sense of honour in volunteering services. It is a proof of our hard work."
Apart from the volunteer badges designed by the GAGOC Volunteers Department, many venues also encourage teachers and students from universities to design badges for each venue of different styles, boosting popularity of volunteer badges.
