儿童变“侏儒”？东京奥运前夕官方集中清理令人崩溃的 “日式英语” Japan calls for fix to odd translations amid tourist influx

大家还记得去年冬奥会上 ，那个因为翻译搞出的国际大乌龙吗？

挪威国家队的营养师，在给队员订营养补给食材的时候，“一时疏忽”错用了谷歌翻译，把1500个鸡蛋翻译成了15000个……

收货的时候整个团队都惊了。不过好在，在撑死队员之前，营养师把多余的鸡蛋卖给了超市，挽回了大部分经济损失。

而为了迎接明年的东京奥运会以及随之而来的众多游客，日本最近对各类公共交通标识的翻译进行了检查，发现了一些让人啼笑皆非的错误。

当地的“日式英语”标识让游客看得晕头转向，一些说法干脆让人百思不得其解，比如，你知道什么叫“释放座位”吗？

“Forgotten Center” instead of “Lost and Found” is just one of the mistranslations discovered on websites that may puzzle foreign tourists in Japan, the government said Wednesday, urging the operators to fix such problems as soon as possible.

日本政府周三表示，“失物招领处”翻译成“忘记中心”，这只是日本网站上发现的误译之一，而这些误译令外国游客非常困惑。日本政府敦促经营者尽快改正这些错误。

With the country readying itself for a further influx of foreign visitors ahead of next year’s Olympics, the Japan Tourism Agency conducted a survey between February and March examining a total of 85 websites by train and bus operators as well as transportation signs in towns.

东京奥运会将在2020年举办，日本正为外国游客的涌入做准备。今年2月到3月间，日本旅游局对85家火车和公交公司运营的网站以及城镇的交通标识开展了调查。

Peculiar English words were found on websites that rely on automated translations, with problematic examples including the use of “dwarf” for “children” and “release place” for “ticket machines.”

网站上出现了一些因为使用机器翻译而出现的奇怪英语表述，错误的表述包括，把“儿童”翻译成“侏儒（dwarf）”，以及用“释放座位”表达“购票机”等等。

The agency also found that translations of some sentences were confusing or incomprehensible, with examples including “what happens to the children fare from what age?”

日本旅游局还发现，一些句子的翻译令人困惑，或者让人无法理解，比如“what happens to the children fare from what age?”（编辑注释：这句话的意思大概是说，什么年龄的儿童可以购买儿童票？）

The machine-aided system also did unnecessary translations of the names of train stations on some websites, making it difficult for non-Japanese speakers to comprehend, the agency said.

这种机器辅助翻译系统还导致一些网站上出现了一些对火车站名不必要的翻译，使不说日语的人很难理解。

Of the 85 websites, 70 offered explanations in English, Korean and Chinese, it added.

日本旅游局说，在85个网站中，有70个提供英语、韩语和中文翻译。

Unnatural direct translations and mistranslations from Japanese sometimes crop up in the news and on social media.

来，重新认识一下大阪地铁……

The operator of the Osaka subway system recently drew global attention when its English websites carried a number of odd translations for train lines and stations as a result of automatic translations that went unchecked.

由于未经核对的自动翻译，大阪地铁系统运营商的英文网站上出现了多个铁路线路和火车站的奇葩翻译，引发全球关注。

“御堂筋線”、“堺筋線”、“今里筋線”，这三条线有个很大的共同点 —— 名字里都有一个 “筋”字。

但问题就出在，在日文地名中，“筋”字是“街道”的意思，但是这个字同时也有“肌肉”的意思， 于是乎，这三条线的英文翻译就变得异常的。。。诡异。。

The Sakaisuji Line was translated as the “Sakai muscle” line. The Japanese word “suji” in the name means street, but the kanji character can also mean “muscle.”

堺筋線被翻译成了“堺肌肉”線。名称中的日语词suji意思是街道，但这个日本汉字还可以表示“肌肉”。

一夜之间，这三条再普通不过的地铁线路，变身成为了三个肌肉猛男！

日本漫画家川口憲吾还为三条线设计了猛男形象。

除了这三条线，其他名字里带“筋”的站名也没能幸免。

至于这几条线有多火，看看粉丝们为它们制作的周边就知道了。

Travelers were also amused to find stations called “Powerhouse Town” (Daikokucho) and “World Teahouse” (Tengachaya), among others.

游客还被“发电镇”（大围町）和“世界茶馆”（ 天下茶屋駅）等翻译逗乐了。

kanji['kɑndʒi]：n.日本汉字

因为丰臣秀吉在此茶歇而得名的“天下茶屋”站（ 英文读音：Tengachaya），被翻译成了World Teahouse（世界茶屋），乍一看好像没啥毛病，但结合文化背景一想，毛病可大了。

突然背负了世界的名号，茶屋想说，这担（ 锅 ）子我不背……

如果说“世界茶屋”站还能将就看看，那这个“動物園前”站就连根本的语法都有点问题了。

Before the zoo，这翻译能再Chinglish一点吗？？？或者说Jaglish。

“太子橋今市” 则被翻译成了Prince Edward Bridge Now City。

但我想请问，这位爱德华王子到底哪位？

像这个“千林大宫”，有英文，有拼音（?），还有罗马音，真是一个集世界文化之精华于一身的宝藏之地啊！

不少网友吐槽“难道官网在机翻后都没有想过人工检查一下么？”

不过，这个操作让世界，真正重新认识了大阪地铁……

The survey also covered the quality of signs in and around stations on 80 routes, discovering instructions in foreign languages that were printed too small and a lack of information about exactly which line would take tourists to their destinations.

调查还覆盖了80条路线中的车站内和车站附近标识的翻译质量，发现一些外语的说明字体太小，还缺少一些信息，比如游客到底乘坐哪条线路才可以到达目的地。

其实，也不仅是英文翻译需要检查，中文翻译也。。。
