Most teachers have never given online teaching classes, so this is a novelty for them, too. They have to learn to speak naturally in front of a camera, use digital red pens during presentations, and keep the students engaged online via written comments — not an easy feat with young kids or teenagers.
Teachers in China have been using Alibaba's DingTalk in order to hold live-streaming classes. This may sound easy for many people, but as teacher Jessie Xie from Chengdu told the South China Morning Post "It’s not easy for some older teachers to learn how to do live-streaming courses. Yesterday one of my colleagues told me she still didn’t know how to use it [even after the coaching session]."
The Ministry of Education recently released a statement decrying schools for making it mandatory for students to clock in and out at specific times of the day.
The ministry said schools shouldn’t place a hard minimum on how much a student should study each day, nor should it be mandatory for students to film themselves studying for hours on end.
It also warned schools not to overwork teachers by requiring them to record every class and banned kindergartens from hosting online classes.
China’s Ministry of Education said it will carefully arrange work related to gaokao, or national college entrance examinations, normally scheduled for June, to determine whether they should be postponed this year.
Officials said local governments should arrange the postponement of school open days based on the local epidemic situation.
2月5号,《南华早报》就以“China’s traditional schools embrace online learning as coronavirus forces students to stay at home.”(《因新冠病毒使学生不得不待在家里,传统的中国学校拥抱网上教学》)为题报道了中国学生转战线上的故事。
Some schools in China are now embracing online learning as a method of teaching, as so many students have had to remain at home to minimize human to human interaction.
Online education and digital medical stocks continue to rise after posting huge gains last week amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Some analysts think that the self-quarantine period may later be recognized as a watershed moment, marking the start of a new era for online services – and the stocks closely tied to them.
Hong Kong-listed companies linked to online games, digital medical services, remote working and distance education are among new economy stocks that soared last week, as investors sensed a transformative moment might be at hand.
