British retailer Woolworths has produced 100,000 souvenirs ready to be
deployed to stores if Prince William, second
in line to the throne, and his girlfriend Kate Middleton
get engaged.
Woolworths has 25,000 commemorative mugs, 15,000 tea towels, 12,000
plates and 8,000 mouse mats bearing pictures of William and Middleton, all
of which are ready to go on sale within 48 hours of an engagement
announcement, the Daily Mirror reported Friday.
The retailer has reportedly commissioned another 20 products, including
plastic dolls of the couple, mobile phones, wine glasses and fluffy slippers.
"There was massive demand for products when (Prince) Charles and (his
second wife) Camilla got married," the company's Marketing Director
Stephen Robertson said.
"But because of their short engagement we didn't have enough time to
design, manufacture and retail products. This time we'll be ready."
William met Middleton in 2001 when the pair were students at the
University of St Andrews in Scotland. They became flatmates and began
dating in 2004.
