Slow jams are commonly R&B ballads or downtempo songs. The term is most commonly reserved for soft-sounding songs with heavily emotional or romantic lyrical content.
Slow jam通常是节奏与蓝调音乐或者慢摇类歌曲,多数情况下都特指那些曲调柔和、歌词深情浪漫的歌曲,中文都称之为“即兴慢说唱”。

The common use and possible origin of this term traces back to 1983 when Solar Records group Midnight Star recorded the song "Slow Jam" on their album No Parking on the Dance Floor.
Slow jam这个说法的起源可能是来自于1983年Solar Records唱片公司旗下的乐队Midnight Star在他们的专辑《No Parking on the Dance Floor》中收录了一首名叫《Slow Jam》的歌曲。

《吉米法伦今夜秀》(Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show )中有一个固定环节“Slow jam the news”就是邀请嘉宾跟主持人一起用slow jam的形式评说近期新闻热点话题。2012年4月,奥巴马就曾经到场参加过这个环节,当时谈的是有关学生贷款利息的问题。

下面是此次奥巴马参加“Slow jam the news”的文本:

O-Obama

J-Jimmy

R-The Roots

O: It's been an honor and a privilege to serve as your president over the past eight years. When I first took office, our nation was facing one of the worst recessions in its history. Since then, we added more than 14 million new jobs and lowered the unemployment rate to under 5%. Through the actions of my administration, we were able to stimulate the economy and get our country back on track.

J: Oh, yeah. President Obama stimulated long-term growth. In both the public and private sector. In 2008 the country wasn’t feeling in the mood, it was too tired, stressed, said it had a headache. Barack lit some candles and got some silky satin sheets and told the American people “Yes we can.”

R: All right. He created tons of jobs, for you and me. He’s got one more left, for Hillary.

O: As president, I'm now proud of many progressive steps our country has taken in recent years, both socially and environmentally. The United States has been a leader in developing clean energy to ensure the health of our future generations. Thanks to the affordable Care Act, the additional 20 million American people now have access to quality healthcare. And same-sex couples across the country now have a constitutional right to marry. In short, climate change is real, health care is affordable, and love is love.

J: Mmm, mmm, mmm. Commander in preach! You gotta listen to my man, Bareezus. He's accomplished a lot in eight years. Even when Congress tried to block him, he found a way in through the backdoor. When Republicans gave him lemons, he made so much lemonade, Beyonce started calling him 'Baracky with the good hair.'

R: Baracky with the good hair. His first two terms ended in such a hurry. Wish he could go for three like my man Steph Curry.

O: Now, now, there will be no third term. I can't stay forever. Besides, daddy's got a Hawaiian vacation booked in about 223 days. But who's counting? That being said, the American people face an important decision this fall. The entire world is watching and they look to us for stability and leadership. Now, I know some of the presidential candidates have been critical of my foreign policy. I don't wanna to name any names.

R: He's talking about Donald Trump.

O: But I believe that it is of the utmost importance to work alongside other world leaders. That's why I signed the Iran nuclear deal. That's why we reopened diplomatic ties with Cuba. And that's why I negotiated the new trade deal called Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP.

J: Now, hold on there, Prez dispenser — are you saying you're down with TPP?

O: Yeah, you know me. Look, Jimmy, the TPP allows American businesses to sell their products both at home and abroad. The more we sell abroad, the more higher paying jobs we provide here at home. It's that simple.

J: So what you're saying is, this trade deal will help put everyday Americans back to—

R: Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, he put us back to work, work, work, work, work, he put us back to-

O: Work, work, work, work, work."

J: Now, Mr. President, since you're here, I gotta ask, have you been watching all the election coverage this week about Donald Trump?

O: No, but I have been watching my new favorite show, 'Orange Is Not the New Black.'

【注解】

“Orange Is The New Black”是美国奈飞公司(Netflix)出品的原创剧(中文译名《女子监狱》 )。

J: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm gonna need you to Netflix and chill. I get it if you're a little wound up after all this time. I mean, I can't imagine what it'd be like to do the same job for eight straight years

O: Jimmy, you probably never will.

R: Does Obamacare cover burns?

O: America's best days are still yet to come.

J:Thank you, Mr. President, for all that you've done.

R: This country's on track and that is a fact once you go Barack you will never go back. Thank you for leading the red white and the blue

J: And that is how we slow jam the news

O: oh, yeah.
