看上去挺浪漫的短语，怎么变成了受罚？其实，这是18世纪英国海军的一种说法。船员犯错误之后，会被按在大炮上，经受鞭子的抽打。大炮被戏称为“gunner's daughter”（炮手的女儿），受罚时趴在大炮上也就是“kiss the gunner's daughter”了。

除此之外，“marry the gunner's daughter”和“hug the gunner's daughter”也是这个意思。
