One person died and 42 others hospitalized in the wake of a food poisoning incident in a hotel in Southwest China's Sichuan province, local authorities said on Sunday.

All the 42 people are out of danger and will be discharged from the hospital in a week, according to the information office of the Garze-Tibetan autonomous prefecture government in Sichuan.

Among the patients are 33 tourists, eight hotel employees and one of their children.

The victims started vomiting after eating breakfast at the Pearl Garden Hotel near Hailuogou National Glaciers Park in Luding county, Garze, on Friday morning.

Wang Yong, a 41-year-old driver employed at the hotel, said he started feeling uncomfortable minutes after eating breakfast at the hotel.

"Not just me, but 10 people in one of the tour groups started vomiting and complained of dizziness," he said.

Wang felt weak and suffered from convulsions. But he, along with Ye Lie, a local guide, helped 24 sickened people into his bus and drove them to a nearby hospital under the administration of Hailuogou National Glaciers Park.

"Wang Yong lost consciousness before he could get off the bus, and medics could not feel his pulse," said Li Xiurong, a 59-year-old tourist from Shanghai.

However, doctors managed to revive Wang's pulse and he is now out of danger.

The only fatality in the incident was Tan Mei, a 47-year-old woman from Guangdong province, who died an hour and a half after arriving at the hospital.

Laboratory tests showed that the noodles served in the hotel's dining area on Friday were tainted with nitrite, said Fu Fugang, a professor at the No 4 Huaxi Hospital of Sichuan University.

Almost all the victims who were hospitalized said the noodles smelt strange.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the incident, said Fan Yuliang, deputy chief of the administrative bureau of Hailuogou National Glaciers Park, a major tourist attraction about 300 kilometers from the provincial capital Chengdu.

The Pearl Garden Hotel has been closed temporarily.

A total of 65 people dined in the hotel and 57 showed symptoms of food poisoning.
