想不到吧，steel yourself是下决心！

今天看到了一个短语“steel yourself”，可不要以为是炼钢的意思哦！

人家的意思是下决心做某事，就比如说跳伞：

She steeled herself to jump out of the plane.
她心一横，跳出了飞机。

1. be yourself 行为自然；不做作

The best thing you can do is to go into the interview and just be yourself.
你最明智的选择就是进去面试时自然地表现自己。

2. (all) by yourself 独自地

I'm amazed you managed to move those boxes all by yourself.
你居然能一个人搬动那些箱子，真让我吃惊。

3. (all) to yourself 独有；专用

So you have the whole house to yourself this weekend?
那么，本周末整个房子就是你一个人的天下了？

4. in yourself

这个短语用于询问某人身体抱恙时的自我感觉。

I know you must still be uncomfortable, but how are you in yourself?
我知道你肯定还是不舒服，不过你自己感觉怎么样？

5. help yourself to 自取； 随便吃

You are asked to help yourself to food.
请你自取食物。

这个短语有两个意思，第一是放任自流；不修边幅。

7. lower yourself 降低身份

高兴得意的时候是不是有飘飘然的感觉。所以说高过自己，也就是形容得意忘形自高自大。

9. behave yourself 行为规矩些

Behave yourself or I'll give you a thick ear!
你放规矩一些，不然我就揍你！

形容表现好或者不好，就用well或者badly表示，比如：

She always behaves well/badly when her aunts come to visit.
每当她姨妈来作客时，她总是表现很好／很差。

10. shut yourself off 把自己封闭起来，不再和别人来往

shut sth off主要有这两个意思：

①关闭（或切断）…的供应；停止供应

Did you remember to shut off the water and gas before you left the house?

②把…封闭起来；将…隔离

The music room is shut off from the rest of the house by a soundproof wall.

11. suit yourself 由自己作主，自便

suit作动词除了表示适合，适宜于，还翻译为对…方便。所以说suit yourself 就翻译为自便咯。

12. speak for yourself 那是你自己的看法，我不是那样想的

这个短语通常用于表示不同意某人的观点。

"We had a really boring trip." "Speak for yourself! I had a wonderful time!"
“我们的旅行可真没劲。”“我可不这么想！我玩得很开心！”

要注意，speak up for sb/sth的意思是“支持；为…辩护”，记得加上up哦！

She has often spoken up for the rights of working mothers.
她经常为上班族妈妈说好话，维护她们的权益。
