对广大烟民来说，现在能够随时点烟的地方是越来越少了。办公室不行，家里不行，餐馆也不行。于是，我们经常就会看见三两男女烟民倚在走廊尽头的栏杆上，一边吞云吐雾，一边闲聊。由此，一个适用于他们的搭讪方式也诞生了，就叫做smirting（借火搭讪）。

Smirting is the practice of smoking and flirting outside public places such as pubs, bars, cafés, restaurants, and office buildings where smoking is prohibited.

Smirting（借火搭讪）指在酒吧、咖啡馆、饭店以及办公楼等禁止吸烟的公共场所外边抽烟边调情（smoking and flirting）的行为。

Smirting was first identified in New York in 2003, and spread to the Republic of Ireland in 2004 when an aggressive smoking ban in public places was enacted.

这一现象2003年初现于纽约，2004年爱尔兰共和国公共场所实行严厉的禁烟令时，借火搭讪风也吹到了那里。

Smirting has been so successful that non-smokers try to mingle with the smirters. The non-smokers may then start to smoke too and so this is a health risk.

借火搭讪因卓有成效而使得非烟民也试图混迹于搭讪群中。而且这些非烟民还有可能也开始吸烟，因此，借火搭讪是一种威胁健康的举动。
