The "Ladies' Safe Trips" taxi service was launched
"at the request of Tehran women asking for a safe and relaxed service,"
according to the municipality transport official Jafar Tashakori Hashemi.
Female passengers can call the company from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm for a
green-colored Kia cab driven by "professional and experienced women" and
equipped with GPS navigation
systems.
"We hope the ladies employed at the taxi company display their
capabilities in social activities by respecting Islamic values," he said.
Passengers in the Islamic republic travel in segregated buses, with
women sitting in the back, but they often have to share taxis with three
men squeezed together on the
back seat.
Women can choose between female-only and mixed wagons on subway trains.
