4. requires some handwaving

The term handwaving is an informal term that describes either the debate technique of failing to rigorously address an argument in an attempt to bypass the argument altogether, or a deliberate gesture and admission that one is intentionally glossing over detail for the sake of time or clarity. It can be meant as an accusation or in a more positive light, depending on the context.

5. a big stallion

Stallion这个词平时并不常用，一般出现在文学作品或书面语中，表示“种马”，且专指牡马（公马。中国古人用“牡牝”表示“公母”）。顺便提一句，西方神话故事中的独角兽unicorn（也用这个词指中国传说中的圣兽麒麟），就是以现实中的stallion虚构出来的。

Sense and Sensibility

i s a novel by Jane Austen that was first published in 1811. It was the first of Austen's novels to be published, under the pseudonym "A Lady." The novel has been adapted for film and television a number of times, most notably in Ang Lee's 1995 version.

Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are sisters with opposite temperaments. Traditionally, it has been viewed that 19 year old Elinor, the elder daughter, represents "sense" (reason) of the title, and Marianne , who is 17, represents "sensibility" (emotion). However this view is a very restricting one. On close inspection of the novel it can be seen that each sister represents different aspects of each characteristic.

Elinor and Marianne are the daughters of Mr. Dashwood by his second wife. They have a younger sister, Margaret, and an older half-brother named John. When their father dies, the family estate passes to John and the Dashwood women are left impoverished. Fortunately, a distant relative offers to rent the women a cottage on his property.

The novel follows the Dashwood sisters to their new home, where they experience both romance and heartbreak. The contrast between the sisters' characters is eventually resolved as they each find love and lasting happiness. (wikipedia)

六本小说，六个人物，六种人生。无论时代怎样变迁，人类还是走不出情感的迷城。孤独半生的Jocelyn，一心想着要帮好友解脱单身，却没想到爱情已经悄悄来临；失婚的Sylvia经历了调整期后，发现其实一个人也可以过得很快乐，人生的圆满最重要在于自己内心的充实强大；最有生活情调的Bernadette，虽然经历了六次婚姻，仍然对人生满怀着爱和希望，并且乐于抚慰别人，有她这样的朋友实在是一件幸事；容易迅速投入爱情的Allegra，发现爱人背叛后，也会迅速跳出、寻找下一个爱人，这也不失为一种态度，因为人生匆匆呀；因为和丈夫没有共同语言的Prudie，为一个小男生意乱情迷，最终还是理性获得了胜利，和丈夫重归于好；俱乐部里唯一的男士Grigg，坚持不懈赢得了真爱。

如果剔除掉奥斯汀，电影中的六种人生也是每天都在不同的地方上演的，可是因为有了奥斯汀的寓言，给这个故事增添了许多宿命的色彩，因为你知道，奥斯汀无论过程怎么艰苦，都会是大团圆结局的。这也许就是奥斯汀令人着迷的地方，她书中的故事总在现实中不断重复，你也总能在书中发现自己。
