Royal baby born!

The world was excited at the announcement of the birth of the royal baby. But thousands were disappointed when the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, gave birth to a baby boy. That's because people were betting on the sex of the baby, and the money was on a female. The media's been buzzing about this story, as reporters from around the globe have sat waiting outside the hospital for nearly two weeks. You'd think they had time to prepare for every aspect of the story, but not on one American news show.

Lose weight, get gold in Dubai

During Ramadan Festival in Dubai, the government is offering its citizens the chance to earn one gram of gold for every kilogram of weight they lose. One gram of gold is worth about $45. Plus, the three biggest losers will each win a gold coin worth an estimated $5,000 each. So if you're participating in the challenge, how can you guarantee victory? Find out only on The Week.

Geese to the rescue!

In West China, officials have enlisted odd help to keep property secure. Xinjiang officials hired geese to work as security guards. At first glance, these feathered animals may not look like much. But after a little research, it's easy to see why they're effective.

This wacky world!

A new "intelligent" surgical knife can detect if the skin it is cutting is cancerous or not. This breakthrough instrument has also proven to be able to differentiate between beef and other types of meat. It'd be useful to have one of these at a Chinese barbecue stand.

A Canadian man apologized for chugging eight beers and then accepting a friend's challenge to swim across the river to Detroit. He was arrested after his friend got scared and called the Coast Guard to search for him.

China's popular social media app WeChat crashed on Monday leaving millions of the country's young women desperately looking for a place to post 20 photos of themselves making a sad face at the camera.

Weekly Buzz word:

Royal baby - A baby born into a family of kings and queens.

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, gave birth to her son this week. Middleton and her husband, Prince William, named the child George Alexander Louis. The royal baby will be known as Prince George of Cambridge and is third in line for the throne.

Another example:

As the new prince was born into luxury and wealth, people may say the royal baby was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
