E-idea: Solutions for sustainable community
Are you concerned about the environment? Do you have an idea or an existing project that can make a real, practical contribution to China’s environmental future? If so, the E-idea project organised by the British Council, LRQA and local Chinese partners, can make a big difference to your future.
E-idea is an innovative competition that funds, supports and mentors young eco-entrepreneurs from across 7 Asia-Pacific countries. In each country, the competition will identify initiatives- either new ideas (start-ups) or ) or the expansion of existing projects (step-ups) -that can make meaningful contributions to the region’s environmental future by focussing on real-life sustainability challenges.
Jointly operated by the British Council, LRQA and local Chinese partners, E-Idea will engage, empower and encourage the competition winners as they bring their ideas to fruition.
The selected eco-entrepreneurs will receive funding as well as expert technical, business, marketing and networking support for the implementation of their projects. The British Council and LRQA are launching and running E-idea in Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam during 2011-12.

How it works
The E-idea Competition 2011 is designed to provide environmentally-minded innovators with the incentive, seed money, training and support to develop climate change and sustainability projects that will engage the widest number of people and have the greatest possible positive effect on their communities.
For those interested in participating in the competition, an interactive training workshop jointly delivered by UK experts and BC climate change officers will be provided to a maximum of 50 participants in early June in each of the following four cities: Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing and Guangzhou. For additional information, please click www.britishcouncil.org.cn/climatecool/e-idea.html
From the initial batch of applications submitted by Thursday July 7th, 40 E-ideas will be shortlisted and the leaders of each team will receive follow-up training and advice from experts to improve their E-idea and improve their final project proposal which must be submitted by August 4th. (All team leaders will be enrolled in the British Council Climate Champions network.)
A jury will select the six best E-ideas (3 start-ups and 3 step-ups) by August 12th, and each selected team will be eligible to receive up to 3,000GBP as seed funding to implement their E-idea in the following year.
In addition:
Awardees will be offered project mentoring by business and sustainability leaders from LRQA and/or its partners and the British Council.
Awardees will attend training and network session in Indonesia in September 2011 with other E-idea winners from countries in the region.
Awardees will be invited to join the British Council and LRQA’s E-idea network of eco-entrepreneurs and innovators, through which they will gain further access to professional development opportunities with experts from the UK and beyond.
It is expected that projects be delivered in consultation with the British Council. Joint delivery of the project will entail regular meetings, reporting and the involvement of British Council and LRQA staff in the project throughout its various stages of development and implementation.
