hit it off
Nelly Min

Reader's question:

And after the stuff that I had been through with my motorcycle wreck, we just kind of immediately hit it off.

Could you explain “hit it off”?

My comments:

To "hit it off" (with somebody) means to be friendly with each other immediately. If you say you and someone you just met hit it off, it means you got along well right away.

Example: We hit it off beautifully – we liked all the same things, and we liked each other a lot.
